The dashCommerce 3.0 Release Candidate is available. From here on out it’s just bug fixes and tidying up. This release has been a long time in the making and already I’m thinking of all sorts of ways to make it better. But we’ll save those for future posts.
I’ve been really happy and impressed with the amount of excitement and help from the community - so thanks a lot. Specifically, I need to point out a few folks:
NAZ: This guy kept the best bug list (with patches) that this project has seen. Well done. He also offered up a lot of the patches himself, so that is AWESOME.
YITZCHOK: This guy single handedly offered up the caching functionality in the RC1. This will do wonders for scalability - especially in future releases. We have some scalability issues with the way dC 3.0 is written, which is fine, but in future releases I’m looking to clean that up and once I do that, the caching stuff will really shine.
JOE DAVIS: Almost single handedly is documenting dashCommerce. Joe has offerred up a couple of documents that folks love! Most importantly they are accurate and well done. Thank you Joe!
ALBERT ARRANZ: Albert took away a lot of grief for folks and their installation of Microsoft SQL Server Express Edition with Advanced Services with his document on how to install it. Great!
Translators: We have a lot of these, and hopefully a lot more coming!! dashCommerce 3.0 is currently translated into 11 different languages and that is just plain SWEEEEET! Check out dashCommerce.org for the list of who did what and send them a Thank You!
So, the plan is to tidy up RC1 for release May 1st - but a lot of this depends on getting the bugs identified and fixed up and since there were major changes from Beta to RC1, there is a lot of work to be done on the translations side of things. We are making good and steady progress and I am please to say that this product looks to be the most stable release and as many people have mentioned, the easiest to install and get working. There are several sites already live!!!
